What caused my City-Bay soreness?

Did the City-Bay?... how did you do?

G'day there Chris Eves here, Personal Trainer. How did you do in the City-Bay on the weekend? How did you pull up? If you're sore in the legs, knees or feet, I have a couple of tips for ya ;-)

What Causes Muscle Soreness?

The experts tell us that the most significant factor in causing muscle soreness is performing exercises where the muscle fibres are lengthening under load. In the video I explain how this relates to your running technique.

How to Fix it?

In most cases, modifying your running technique will create a movement where your muscle fibres are shortening under load, instead of lengthening. The most common THREE changes that are required to most people's technique are:

1. Shorten your stride

2. Increase your cadence (steps per minute)

3. Land on the mid-foot, beneath your hip

Footwear Awareness!

If someone was hitting you on the head with a stick, would you move your head out of the way, or grab a helmet so it didn't hurt so much? In the video I explain how your running shoes can be like taking the helmet option, and how important it is to be aware of keeping the right running technique.
