Talking anything and everything Health, Fitness and Wellness related, tonight we chatted about Sugar and I shared a couple of interesting perspectives.
One of the important points I wanted to note is that there are (broadly) 2 types of sugar. Firstly the sugar contained in whole, real food sources, like fruit, and secondly PROCESSED sugar, which we spoke about as anything that has been removed from it's whole plant or food source.
The "take away" is the awareness that both are absorbed into the body differently, and while although "a calorie is a calorie", sugar from processed sources contains "empty" calories, and lack the fibre and minerals to be of any use to our body.
The BIG take away, is that there is a SERIOUS misconception that FRUIT IS BAD due to the sugar. Which is totally incorrect (unless you have specific sensitivities or allergies) becasue fruit is a highly important source of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that are ESSENTIAL to maintain a healthy balanced diet.
I also draw an interesting comparison between two white powdery substances..... sugar and cocaine.....
